Thank you for your interest in microboards as a service provider option for yourself or your loved one.  Below are links to our information packet that includes information about the process we use to help people establish a microboard.  This process can take between eight months to a year to complete.

Some people think that a microboard is just a single person agency.  The Microboard concept and the first actual Microboard were created in 1986 in Manitoba, Canada by our colleagues David and Faye Wetherow.   Several years later the idea was taken up by the Vela Microboard Association in British Columbia, who trademarked the term as a way of ensuring that people who used the term would be operating with the philosophy and principles that are integral to the concept.

Vela has given the Tennessee Microboard Association permission to use the term.  As such, we believe that microboards are far more than a single person agency.  We believe microboards have a specific philosophy and purpose that is important to uphold that relates to self-determination and providing a higher quality of services and supports.

We hope that this information is useful to you.  Please feel free to share it with anyone.  Staff from the Tennessee Microboards Association are available to meet personally with you and the people who are interested in learning more about how to begin.  Please feel free to contact us at any time.

Best wishes for a productive journey into a better quality of life.
